First Church of God, Greenville, PA now has a new website.
Click the above button to find the new Upcoming Events Page.
I have been resisting Pastor Rob for the last couple months now when he wanted to design a new website because I felt I was an old dog and couldn't learn new tricks...Well thankfully a new updated website was designed (without my help) and it is now my job to transfer items from the old website http://www.thelighthouseonthehill.org to the new website https://www.fcogg.org.
I was afraid that I would lose a lot of the information that I have worked to put on the old website over the last five years...I have been working diligently the last couple weeks to see how that information can be saved and adapted to the new website. Well it is funny how God works because I have been getting a lot less sleep the last couple weeks working on a way to do this. I am now less sluggish because less sleep has helped my diabetic high sugar levels to lower and my brain is working better than it has for quite awhile... I no longer feel like that old dog.... I now feel like I have a purpose and am excited to get up each morning and see what God has planned for me to do that day on the website.
I recently pulled up the website analytics for http://www.thelighthouseonthehill.org and from 12/04/2017 to 01/04/2018 the old website has had 3,741visitors...This is not how many pages were viewed but how many unique persons visited the website each day... Those 3,741 visitors viewed 25,590 pages while on the website from 12/04/2017 to 01/04/2018 .. They were from at least 30 different countries and 6 different continents...
Not bad for someone who goes to a small church:
I am now motivated to do the best job I can do when videotaping the Sunday services!!!
If you feel like you are an old dog and can't learn how to maneuver the new website, I ask that you be open minded and give it a try... Right now the plan is to keep both websites until December 26, 2018, when the contract comes up for renewal. There will be links throughout the old website for the corresponding page on the new website...We want those 3,741 visitors to be able to find us in the future.
More hints and suggestions:
To see the Sunday AM Sermon / Special Music Links listed by week or those that aren't on https://www.fcogg.org/sermons or the First Church Of God YouTube channel you can still visit the Sermons Page: http://www.thelighthouseonthehill.org/Sermons.htm.
Along with the new website we also now have a YouTube channel: First Church Of God
When finished watching one of the videos on our YouTube channel I would suggest clicking the channel link First Church Of God found below the video title. This will take you back to the channel home page where you can click Videos to bring up all the church videos that are currently on the First Church Of God channel....If you don't do this it is hard to predict what video will be suggested next...
I have changed everything since 1/7/2018 on the traditional website to an embedded YouTube video instead of the Flash Movie used before that date. The controls for the embedded YouTube video are a lot more "user friendly" than the controls for the former Flash Movies. Hover your cursor over the video to see the controls. When watching the embedded YouTube video you can now click the square box in the bottom right corner to go Full Screen or the YouTube link next to it to watch the video on YouTube. (Our computer has a large monitor and in Full Screen I feel like I am in the church service!!!) Of course you can Exit Full Screen if you want to see the song lyrics on the traditional webpage. We also have external speakers for the audio and have found they do a much better job than internal speakers.
Clicking SHOW MORE below the video title on YouTube will also let you see the song lyrics.
If you have any questions or comments about the new website please email me. If I don't know the answer I will forward the email to the correct person to anwer your questions.
Resources for the New Year
As we finish the year, we would like to remind you of resources that will continue to be available in 2018.
1. Right Now Media is a website with Bible studies, videos and other material. It is available to everyone in the congregation. To access the information, please submit your request and email address to the church office. An email with a link to the website will be sent to you.
2. The church newsletter will continue to be published on a monthly basis. If you have not been receiving a copy in the mail, please submit your current address to the church office.
3. Through the Bible in a Year Reading Plans are available on the table in the narthex.
The Friendship & Communication Card (located in your bulletin) can be used to provide the above information.
For security purposes, please be sure all the church doors are locked when you leave or if you are here alone.
We now have a prayer box in the narthex (across from the welcome center). Confidential prayer requests for Pastor Rob and/or the prayer team may be placed in the box. For your convenience, you may use the prayer request section of the Friendship & Communication Card located in the bulletin.
If you would like a prayer blanket for someone, please see Sally McCormick or Erma Miller. Please provide the name of the person receiving the blanket for their records.
Jamie Robertson was recently appointed as the new junior church director. Please see Jamie if you have any questions or concerns about junior church. Thank you, Jamie, for your willingness to serve.
A discipleship Sunday School class for new Christians is now available. See Pastor Rob with any questions.
The formation of small prayer groups to meet once a month is encouraged.
Bible Reading Plan
One-year Bible reading plans are available in the narthex. The plan is a listing of daily Scripture readings so you read the entire Bible in one year. January is a great time to start!
If you have a prayer request during the week, please call
Denice Shollenberger at 724-588-7331 to start the prayer chain.
By law everyone involved in youth or children’s ministry must have the proper clearances on file in the church office.
1. Please submit the proper clearances as soon as possible. If you are not currently a resident of Pennsylvania or have not lived in Pennsylvania for the last ten years, you will need the FBI fingerprinting in addition to the child abuse history clearance and the criminal background check.
2. Application forms are available in the narthex.
3. If you have your clearances at home, please bring them in so copies can be made.
4. Check with Sharon Shannon if you are unsure which clearances you still need.
